We are living in a period of political crisis. Emancipatory (revolutionary or progressive) politics rooted in the fundamental masses of people — workers and poor peasants — is no longer incarnated by the existing dominant historical modes of politics. Theories of human and social emancipation and the practices they imply have suddenly become inoperative. This worldwide crisis has come to the fore with, among other things, the completion of the “crisis of Marxism”.
